The Types of Live Baccarat

The live baccarat lobby offers many different games. We have grouped them into four types.

1. Classic baccarat (Punto Banco). Standard rules, standard payouts.
2. Pace and reveal games. Same rules and same payouts. Only the pace or the card reveal changes.
3. Multiplier baccarat. Random multipliers can raise your payout. You pay an extra fee each round.
4. Rule variation games. Still baccarat, but a rule or a payout in the base game changes.

1. Classic Live Baccarat (Punto Banco)

This is the standard game streamed live to your screen. The rules and payouts are the same everywhere: the hand closest to 9 wins, and the Banker win pays even money minus a 5% commission. What sets these tables apart is the side bets. A side bet is an extra wager you place next to your main bet. It does not change the rules. It gives you extra ways to bet. Below are some of the most common classic tables and the side bets each one offers.

Live Baccarat (Evolution)

The standard version from Evolution comes with four side bets. Player Pair and Banker Pair win if the first two cards of that hand form a pair. Either Pair wins if a pair shows up on either side, so you do not have to pick which one. Perfect Pair is stricter: it wins only if a hand’s first two cards are identical in rank and suit, for example two Queens of Hearts. Player Bonus and Banker Bonus win when the side you chose wins with a natural 8 or 9, or by a margin of at least 4 points. The larger the margin, the higher the payout, up to 30 to 1. We like to play the Either Pair bet, because it pays on a pair from either hand rather than asking you to guess the side first.

Baccarat (Pragmatic Play)

Pragmatic Play’s standard version offers the same side bets as the Evolution table, so you will find the same pairs and bonus wagers here.

Super 8 Baccarat (Pragmatic Play)

Super 8 Baccarat has different side bets:

• Player Super Pair and Banker Super Pair: pay on a pair in the first two cards, with a higher payout for a stronger pair.
• Super 8: wins when a hand forms a natural 8, a total of 8 from the first two cards.

2. Pace and Reveal Games

These games change the pace, or the way the cards are revealed. Your odds stay the same, so the choice comes down to how fast or how slow you like to play. Below are the most common pace and reveal tables.

Speed Baccarat (Evolution and Pragmatic Play)

Each round is shorter, so you play more rounds in the same time. The betting time and the reveal are trimmed down, which suits players who want a quick pace and do not want to wait between hands.

Baccarat Squeeze (Evolution)

The opposite of Speed Baccarat. The dealer reveals the cards slowly, with close-up cameras that build up each hand. A round takes longer, which suits players who enjoy the tension of a slow reveal rather than a fast game.

Baccarat Control Squeeze (Evolution)

The same slow reveal as Baccarat Squeeze, but you do it yourself. You turn the cards over on your own screen, at your own pace. This suits players who want the slow build-up and like being the one in control of it.

3. Multiplier Games

These games add random multipliers that can raise your payout. To fund the feature, they add a fee to your stake each round. The fee, the size of the multipliers, and how often they hit differ per game. Below are three of the most common games.

Lightning Baccarat (Evolution)

Before each deal, 1 to 5 cards become Lightning Cards with a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 8x. If a winning hand holds a Lightning Card, the payout is multiplied. Player and Banker wins can reach 512x. The Tie bet pays 5 to 1 here, instead of the standard 8 to 1.

Prosperity Tree Baccarat (Pragmatic Play)

This game has 8 multiplier cards every round instead of 1 to 5. Each card carries a 2x or 3x multiplier. The multipliers are smaller, but you hit them more often. Suited to players who want steadier wins.

Mega Baccarat (Pragmatic Play)

This game works differently. The multipliers land on the betting positions, not on the cards. Each position gets a random multiplier from 2x to 100x. Two dice are then rolled, and the multipliers only pay if the dice total 8 or 9.

4. Rule Variation Games

The games change a rule or a payout in the base game. This is different from the multiplier tables, where the base game stays the same and a feature is added on top. Below are some of the tables where a rule or payout changes.

Always 8 Baccarat / Always 9 Baccarat (Evolution)

In these two tables, the Banker’s first card is fixed before the round starts. In Always 8 it is an 8, in Always 9 it is a 9. Everything else follows standard baccarat: closest to 9 wins, and the third-card rule applies. The payouts change to match the Banker’s edge.

Peek Baccarat (Evolution)

Peek Baccarat follows standard baccarat rules, so the hand closest to 9 still wins. What changes is the peek. When you bet on Player or Banker, a 20% fee is added. After the deal, the dealer turns over one to four of the cards at random. You do not choose how many. Based on what the cards show, you can then raise your bet to double or triple, or leave it as it is. This is what makes the table different: you adjust your bet after the betting time has closed, which standard baccarat does not allow.

You pay the 20% fee on every Player or Banker bet, whether you raise or not. So the peek only works in your favour if you raise at the right moments. If you do not plan to raise, a standard baccarat table costs you less.

Games That Are Not Baccarat, But Come Close

These games look like baccarat, but they follow different rules. There is no closest-to-9 rule. Two hands are compared, and the higher card or total wins. We group them here because they sit closest to baccarat, and baccarat players often like them too.

• Dragon Tiger (Evolution): one card goes to Dragon, one to Tiger, and the higher card wins. Read our review: Dragon Tiger.

How We Review Live Baccarat Games

We test every live baccarat game ourselves and then score it with the same fixed framework we use across the site. That way you can compare any two scores on the site directly. No game gets an easier or stricter review, so a higher score always means a better result against the same points. Here are two examples of scoring points in the framework:

• RTP across all bet options, not just the main one. The Player and Banker bets are among the best in the casino, but baccarat tables are full of side bets, and those pay back far less. We check every option and score how wide the gap is between the best and the worst, so you can see whether every bet on the table is fair or only the main one.
• Dealers, because a live table stands or falls with the person running it. We watch the dealers over several sessions and at different times of day, and score whether they run the game smoothly, answer players in the chat, and keep the same steady feel when one dealer hands over to the next.

How to Play Live Baccarat

Baccarat is one of the easiest live casino games to follow, because you make no decisions once your bet is placed. You bet on one of two hands, the dealer does the rest, and fixed rules decide the outcome. Below we walk through a round step by step, starting with what the cards are worth.

Card values
In baccarat, the cards are not worth what you might expect from other card games:

• 10, Jack, Queen and King are worth 0.
• Ace is worth 1.
• Cards 2 to 9 are worth their face value.

Suits do not matter. Only the total value of the hand counts.

Pick a table that fits how you like to play. Start with classic Punto Banco if you are new. Choose a Speed Baccarat table for faster rounds, a Squeeze table for slower reveals, or a multiplier table if you want higher payouts against an extra fee each round. We try to review as many live baccarat tables as possible.

Place your bet

Choose Player, Banker or Tie and set your stake. Most tables also offer side bets, such as Player Pair and Banker Pair. Side bets do not change the main game. They give extra ways to bet, but they usually carry a higher house edge.

The cards are dealt

The dealer deals two cards to the Player and two to the Banker, face up. Fixed rules then decide if a third card is dealt. You do not choose this. The dealer applies the rules for you.

A hand value of 8 or 9 from the first two cards is called a natural. If either side has a natural, both hands stand and no more cards are dealt.

If there is no natural, the drawing rules apply:

• The Player draws a third card on a total of 0 to 5, and stands on 6 or 7.
• The Banker draws or stands based on its own total and the value of the Player’s third card.

These rules are the same at every classic table, so you cannot change how a hand plays out once your bet is placed. What you can choose is where to bet. Banker wins slightly more often than Player, which is why it carries the lowest house edge, while Tie and side bets pay more but return less over time.

The result and payout

The hand closest to a value of 9 wins. If a total goes above 9, drop the first digit. For example, 8 plus 5 is 13, which counts as 3.

Winning bets are paid at once. If you bet on Player or Banker and the result is a Tie, your stake is returned.
