What Is Treasure Island Live?

The live game show Crazy Time took the internet by storm when it was first released. Pragmatic Play saw its success and thought, “We can do better than that.”

This led to the launch of Treasure Island. Just as Crazy Time, it’s a live game show with a large money wheel and four bonus games.

Treasure Island was released in 2023, and many players saw right away that it looked a lot like Crazy Time. Still, Pragmatic Play tried to give the game its own style.

However, this first version was not very successful. Many players said the bonus rounds were too complicated and had too many random (RNG) elements, and I kind of agreed.

Pragmatic Play responded well to this feedback and made several changes to the game. The current version of Treasure Island looks much more like Crazy Time.

The wheel has 54 segments, featuring four different bonus games and direct prizes (1x, 2x, 5x, and 10x your bet). The main differences are the set-ups of the bonus games, the volatility, and ‘The Booster’ multiplier.

The main concept is simple: you try to guess where the wheel will stop. There are eight betting options:

  • Four direct cash prizes (1x, 2x, 5x, and 10x your bet). If you bet on one of these and the wheel stops there, you win a direct cash prize, and a new round begins.
  • Four bonus games. If you bet on a bonus game and the wheel stops there, you take part in the bonus game, where you have the chance to win large multipliers.

Here is an overview of the betting options:

Billy Bone’s Map22/54 = 3.70%5x to 1,200x
Captain Flints Treasure11/54 = 1.85%6x to 4,000x

Note: The payouts can be further boosted by “The Booster.” With this feature, John Silver’s Loot and Captain Flint’s Treasure can pay up to an impressive 20,000x. The other two bonus games can reach 10,000x and 12,000x, respectively, which is also very rewarding.

The maximum win per round is capped at €/£/$500,000, which is standard for a live casino game

Launch Treasure Island Live

Now that your account is ready, search for Treasure Island Live or go to the live casino section. Tap the game, and the casino will take you to the live studio of Pragmatic Play Live. There is a live host presenting Treasure Island.

Place Your Bets

Fourth step in playing Treasure Island game show
Place Your Bets

You have a limited time to place one or more bets. Each position you bet on increases how much you pay per round. In turn, you get more opportunities to win bonuses and direct cash prizes. Finding the right trade-off that works for your budget is essential if you plan to play for a long time.

The rule of thumb that I use is to never bet more than 2 per cent of your total bankroll.

Wheel Spins and Determines Outcome

Fifth step in playing Treasure Island game show
Wheel Spins and Determines Outcome

Once the timer hits zero, betting ends, and the host spins the wheel. Depending on where the wheel stops, you win a direct cash prize, trigger one of the bonuses, or lose your bet. After payouts are awarded, the next round automatically starts again.

“In most of my rounds, I ended up with 7x or 10x. But now and then, luck was on my side and I reached 50x, 75x, and once even 100x.

Those wins definitely felt satisfying.”

What Is the Booster in Treasure Island Live?

After the betting time closes and before the wheel stops, a two-column slot is spun. This feature is called “The Booster.” One column shows a betting option on the wheel, and the other shows a multiplier. This multiplier is then applied to the selected betting option.

Here are the possible multipliers:

  • The numbers (1, 2, 5, and 10) can receive multipliers of 2x, 3x, 5x, 7x, 10x, and 20x.
  • John Silver’s Loot, Ben’s Lost Marbles, and Billy Bones’s Map can receive 2x, 3x, 5x, 7x, and 10x.
  • Captain Flint’s Treasure can receive 2x, 3x, and 5x.

Crazy Time features a similar mechanic. However, there is an important difference: in Treasure Island, in every round, a segment receives a multiplier. In Crazy Time, no multiplier is assigned in a game round. To compensate, Crazy Time offers higher multipliers, possibly up to 50x.

Bonus Games

Let’s take a closer look at the four bonus games in Treasure Island.

#1 Ben’s Lost Marbles

Ben’s Lost Marbles is similar to the Pachinko bonus in Crazy Time, but with its own unique twist.

The bonus takes place in a large pinball-style machine filled with obstacles, such as pins and bumpers. Besides these obstacles, there are multiple pockets in which the balls can land. Every marble that lands in an active pocket adds its multiplier to your total bonus payout.

  • There are 9 possible multiplier pocket positions. At the start of each round, 5 out of the 9 pockets are randomly selected to be active.
  • Each active pocket is then assigned a random multiplier between 1x and 20x.

Next, the game decides how many marbles will be dropped. This is determined by rolling three physical dice, each showing numbers 1 to 3:

  • The total of the dice equals the number of batches of marbles you will receive.
  • The first five batches release 5 marbles each.
  • The other three baskets release 10 marbles each.

In total, the number of marbles can range from 15 marbles (with a dice roll of 1-1-1) to 55 marbles (with a roll of 3-3-3).

Naturally, having more marbles increases your chances of hitting more multiplier pockets and boosting your total payout.

While the number of marbles depends on the dice roll, the path each marble takes is entirely RNG-based.

#2 John Silver’s Loot

John Silver’s Loot uses a bingo-style machine, which might remind you of games like Mega Ball or MONOPOLY Big Baller. Instead of numbered balls, this machine contains 20 green balls and 20 red balls.

To the left of the machine, you see a ladder with multipliers that start at 5× and go up to 2,000×. Each time the game draws a green ball, you climb one step and increase your bonus multiplier.

But if the game draws a red ball, the bonus ends, and you receive your current multiplier.

141500x0.0001285%
152000x0.000003083%

According to the above stats, getting past 50x already becomes quite rare. Reaching the top multipliers is extremely difficult.

#3 Billy Bones Map

Billy Bones’s Map is a straightforward, pick-and-click style bonus game. You’ll see an 8×8 grid that represents a treasure map with 64 hidden squares, each hiding a multiplier. Some squares also contain keys.

You get to pick five squares. The total of all revealed multipliers is your bonus payout. Keys can significantly boost this payout:

  • 1 key adds 10x
  • 2 keys add 50x
  • 3 keys add 1,000x

The idea is simple; you’re picking spots on a map in search of hidden rewards. Sometimes you’ll uncover good multipliers, and occasionally a key or two or three that gives your total a nice boost.

It’s a simple yet fun game where picking wisely (or getting lucky) can really pay off.

#4 Captain Flint’s Treasure

Captain Flint’s Treasure is the rarest bonus game in Treasure Island, and in my opinion, it’s also the most exciting one.

The game takes place inside a treasure cave with 6 rows of barrels, each row containing 7 barrels. Before the reveal begins, you choose one barrel in every row. This forms your personal path through the cave.

Once all players have made their choices, the game begins to reveal the barrels row by row, starting at the top. For each row, you see what was inside the barrel you picked:

  • If it shows a multiplier, you add it to your total and move on to the next row.
  • If it shows a skull, the game ends for you and your total multiplier locks in.

The first two rows are always safe; they contain no skulls. From the third row onward, skulls are added. The deeper you go, the more skulls appear, but also the higher the multipliers can be. Specifically, the 3rd row has one skull, and the 4th, 5th and 6th have 3 skulls.

I really enjoy this bonus. Picking your full path in advance builds a lot of tension while the rows reveal themselves.

In several rounds, I reached the lower levels and hit payouts between 50× and 100×. When a Booster multiplier appears, this bonus can deliver some of the biggest wins in the game.

What Is the Return to Player (RTP) in Treasure Island?

The Return to Player (RTP) in the current version of Treasure Island Live is around 96.55% for all betting options. The differences between them are very small, so it doesn’t make much of a difference in which one you bet on from an RTP perspective.

This makes it easier to play based on your strategy or preferences without worrying too much about the math.

What Is the Volatility?

Before diving into the details, let’s first explain what volatility means. In live casino games like Treasure Island, volatility describes how often the game pays out and how big those payouts are.

  • A high volatility game gives fewer wins, but they can be large when they do happen.
  • A low volatility game pays out more often, but usually in smaller amounts.

Treasure Island Live has a medium to high volatility, depending on which betting option you choose. For example:

  • Betting on 1x or 2x pays out often, but the rewards are small.
  • Betting on bonus games or 10x is riskier, as they hit less frequently, but they can bring much bigger wins.
  • The Captain Flint’s Treasure bonus is the rarest and has the potential for the highest multipliers, so it is the most volatile of all.

This means that players who prefer more regular wins might also want to include low numbers in their betting strategy. On the contrary, players looking for big payouts might enjoy betting on the bonus games only.

Volatility Compared to Crazy Time

Compared to Crazy Time, I find that Treasure Island has slightly lower volatility, although the difference is not very large. Both games give you a similar chance of landing a bonus game, because they use the same wheel structure. However, the overall payout pattern feels a bit more stable in Treasure Island.

One reason is the Booster feature, which guarantees that one betting option receives a multiplier in every round. This leads to more frequent enhanced wins, even on the regular number bets (1x, 2x, 5x, 10x).

In Crazy Time, it is possible to have several rounds where no segment receives a multiplier, which can create longer stretches of very low returns. Also, the bonus games in Treasure Island seem to produce more consistent medium-level payouts (in between 10x and 30x), on average.

In conclusion, if you enjoy a game with a more balanced payout profile, Treasure Island may suit your style slightly better.

Theme

Treasure Island’s theme is based on the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. Personally, I wasn’t familiar with the book, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this live game show.

Pragmatic Play has done a great job designing the live casino studio. It is full of details that bring the theme to life. For players who do know the novel, familiar characters appear in the bonus games, such as Long John Silver, Captain Flint, and Billy Bones.
