Free Bet Blackjack is Evolution’s live blackjack game where the casino pays for some of your bets. The rules follow standard blackjack, with two changes that work together.
The first change is the free bets. On a hard 9, 10, or 11 you get a Free Double: the casino adds the extra stake instead of you. On most pairs you get a Free Split, again paid by the casino. This applies to all pairs except 10-value cards. If you win a free hand, you are paid as normal. If you lose, you lose only your original stake, not the free bet.
The second change balances the first. If the dealer finishes on 22, the round is a push instead of a dealer bust. Your stake is returned and you are not paid, even on a hand that would normally win. This happens every time the dealer reaches 22, so it lowers the value of the free bets.
The game is played with eight decks and seven seats. You can hit, stand, split, and double down, and blackjack pays 3:2. Two side bets are available: Perfect Pairs and 21+3.
How to Play Free Bet Blackjack
Place the Bet
You place the bet by clicking or tapping the chips at your disposal. The minimum bet here is $10 (maximum is $10,000), so it’s not exactly low stakes.
Receive the Cards
As per Vegas-style rules, the dealer takes the cards and deals two cards face-up to each player. They also deal one card face-up to themselves, and another one face-down.
Take Action
After you receive your cards, you can choose to Hit, Stand, Split, or Double. The game highlights available free bets in gold instead of the standard red.
Collect the Reward
If your hand beats the dealer, the game pays you according to the paytable. If you use a free bet, the game calculates your winnings differently than with a regular paid split or double.

Free Bets in Free Bet Blackjack
The game’s main drawcard is the free bets presented to you if the initial hand qualifies. They include Free Double and Free Split.
Free Double
If your initial cards make up a hard 9,10, or 11, this qualifies you for the Free Double bet. Should you go for it (and you don’t have to), your initial bet will be doubled. However, the winnings will only be paid on the initial bet and not the free double.
In practice, if you bet $10 and use Free Double to increase the bet size to $20, beat the dealer, and you’ll win $30. Not $40 as you would in a Double Bet that you actually pay for.
Free Split
If your first two cards form a pair from 2 through 9 or a pair of Aces, you can choose a Free Split. This option gives you another chance to win without paying for the extra split bet yourself. If you win both the left and right sides of the split, you’ll pocket 3x the initial bet. With one of them, you’ll get 2:1 for left or break even for right.
Tip: Just because they are presented, you don’t have to play the free bets. In fact, sometimes they are completely at odds with the basic strategy.
Side Bets
In addition to the free bets, the game features an array of side bets that add further complexity. These are very much classic blackjack side bets with none of that Hot 3 or Bust It shenanigans.
Perfect Pairs
Perfect Pair lets you win if your initial deal forms a pair. It can be any pair: two 3’s are just as valuable as two K’s. What matters more are suits and colors. Three types of Pairs are:
- Perfect Pair: Paired cards of the same suits that pay 25:1.
- Coloured Pair: Paired cards of different suits but the same colors that pay 12:1.
- Mixed Pair: Paired cards of different suits and different colors that pay 6:1.

The 21+3 side bet wins when your two cards combine with the dealer’s upcard to form one of the following five hands:

It’s funny to say that about a game called Free Bet Blackjack, but beware of free bets. This is classic 3:2 blackjack at its heart, and even though it likes to throw you a little trick now and then, basic strategy is still your best friend.
Free Doubles and Free Splits may look like free money, but you still need to use them wisely. Free Doubles only pay your original bet on a win, and Free Splits pay 3:1 if both hands win. Still, Splits are worth a shot almost every time in my opinion, if only to extend the game time.
Side bets like Perfect Pairs and 21+3 are a fun eye candy, but they are not great statistically. Treat them like bonuses you might try once in a while, but don’t plan your strategy around them. Stick mostly to the main game as the RTP is much higher, use free bets wisely, and you’ll keep the house edge in check.

What’s My Opinion on Free Bet Blackjack?
I like Free Bet Blackjack. It’s not flashy or trying to blow your socks off with multipliers or cinematic angles, but it is a game that makes you think. Free Doubles and Free Splits can give you an edge if you pay attention, but they’re not automatic wins.
You have to pick your moments, because the dealer pushing on 22 changes the math enough that you can’t just play every hand the same way.
Does it change too much? A bit, yes. I can’t tell you how many times I thought they busted, only to remember that 22 was a push. Also, I didn’t like that the RTP in regular play is below 99%.
But did I like the game overall? Absolutely. Compared to other live blackjack games, Free Bet sits right in the sweet spot. It rewards players who actually pay attention and make decisions rather than just hitting buttons, which is always a plus in my book.
