What is Triple Card Poker?

Triple Card Poker is a fast and exciting poker variation where the winner is determined by comparing 3-card hands.

Triple Card Poker, also known as Three Card Poker, is a live poker game by Evolution. It accommodates an unlimited number of players who must have a stronger 3-card hand than the dealer to win. The game uses a standard 52-card deck, excluding jokers.

Players can place the main bet, Ante, or try their luck with side bets, Pair Plus Bonus and 6 Card Bonus, paying up to 1,000:1. There’s also an Ante Bonus, awarded on the Ante to players who have a Straight hand or better, regardless of the dealer’s hand.

Although it’s a poker game, Triple Card Poker doesn’t require you to make many decisions. Besides choosing whether you’ll play the side bets or not, the only decision you should make is whether you’ll play or fold once you evaluate the cards that have been dealt to you. This makes Triple Card Poker a game suitable for beginners to the game of poker.  

How to Play Triple Card Poker

Triple Card Poker is a straightforward game, which can also be said of its interface. Below, I break it down for you:

Interface explained:

• Betting Time and Chips – The betting time is displayed on the screen, along with chips of different values you should pick from.
• Betting Layout – It shows all the betting options: Ante, Play, Pair Plus, and 6 Card Bonus Bet.
• Make Your Decision (Play or Fold) – After cards are dealt, you’re offered to choose whether you’ll continue playing or fold.  
• Outcome – On the left-hand side of the table, you’ll first see your combination of cards, then the dealer’s. The cards are compared, and the payout is awarded if you win.

Side Bets in Triple Card Poker Live

Although Triple Card Poker offers two side bets, there’s also an Ante Bonus, which doesn’t require an additional wager but can earn you up to 5:1. It pays if your hand is a Straight or better. Here’s what you can win with the Ante Bonus.

• Straight Flush or Higher – 5:1
• Three of a Kind – 4:1
• Straight – 1:1

The other two side bets are Pair Plus and 6 Card Bonus. Like the Ante Bonus, these bets pay regardless of the dealer’s hand. Here’s an overview of all payouts.

Pair Plus Bonus is an optional side bet that pays out if your cards form a Pair or a better hand.

6 Card Bonus Bet

To win on the 6 Card Bonus bet, you must have a winning 5-card hand created with the cards you’ve been dealt and the dealer’s cards according to the rankings below.

• Straight Flush – 200:1
• Four of a Kind – 100:1
• Full House – 20:1
• Flush – 15:1
• Straight – 10:1
• Three of a Kind – 7:1

Strategy to Play Triple Card Poker Live

Although it is a simple game, Triple Card Poker still requires some decision-making. To make an informed decision, you first must understand hand rankings in this poker variant. They are a bit different from other poker games, where outcomes are determined based on 5-card hands. Here’s a lowdown on hand rankings in Triple Card Poker:

• Straight Flush: The strongest hand consisting of 3 consecutive cards of the same suit.
• Three of a Kind: 3 cards of the same rank.
• Straight: 3 consecutive cards of any suit.
• Flush: 3 non-consecutive cards of the same suit.
• Pair: 2 cards of the same rank.
• High Card: The highest single card if you haven’t created any of the hands.

Based on these hand rankings, you should decide whether you’ll keep playing or quit the game. When it comes to Triple Card Poker, the best strategy is to play with a hand consisting of a Q, 6, and 4. Anything below that is considered risky to play.

Additionally, keep in mind the RTP for both the main and side bets. The theoretical RTP for the Ante bet is 96.63%, while it drops for the side bets. The Pair Plus Bonus bet has a 95.51% RTP. At the same time, the RTP of the 6 Card Bonus bet is pretty low, sitting at 91.44%.

All things considered, if you want to keep your bankroll healthy, play only on hands with a Q, 6 and 4 and fold in other cases. As for optional bets, you can play them occasionally, when you feel lucky, since they are based on sheer luck, just like the Ante Bonus, which pays on a Straight or better.  

My Results in Different Playing Sessions

I’m not going to lie; I’ve had my share of losing while playing Triple Card Poker. Lady Luck was not always on my side when cards were dealt, so I ended up with some weak hands. That’s when I folded, losing only my Ante bets and avoiding additional losses.

A few times, I made risky decisions, which turned out to be the right ones. So, if you wager smaller amounts, you can do that, too. It adds more excitement to the gameplay.

I couldn’t help but notice that my poker skills were almost useless while playing Triple Card Poker, since most payouts were hit at random, as if I had been playing roulette or baccarat. I’m referring here to both the main game and side bets, which you should play responsibly.
